Today marks the launch of Pointr on the Epic® Showroom. The collaboration allows patients to access Pointr’s maps within the MyChart® app for smooth and efficient navigation around hospital campuses. Whether someone is looking for directions to their appointment, the restroom, or the entrance they came in through, Pointr Maps are available to provide seamless blue dot wayfinding and ultimately ease the stress of finding one’s way around the hospital. Some other features include Smart Search and AI-powered map updates via Pointr’s market-leading tool, MapScale®.

Going to the hospital or a healthcare campus for an appointment can be a stressful experience. Pointr’s goal with the integration is to improve the healthcare journey for patients by making hospital wayfinding more accessible and easy-to-navigate.

Upgrading the Patient Experience/Hospital Journey

With Pointr Maps, patients launch indoor navigation directly from their MyChart appointment through a deep link, giving them a personalized route to parking and all the way to their clinic or exam room.

With Pointr maps, patients and visitors view amenities such as restrooms, cafes/food, elevators, and the hospital chapel. Pointr understands that patients and visitors are focused on health-related matters, so their maps can help minimize confusion and stress by creating turn-by-turn directions to points of interest.

For patients who have multiple appointments across large hospital campuses, Pointr’s Maps will help them navigate their way from one appointment to another, whether they are going from one level to another or a different building on the campus.

Navigating one’s way around the hospital campus can start from the parking lot with Pointr’s Mark My Car feature. This allows the patient or visitor to mark their car’s location so they can smoothly find their way back after their appointment or visit.

How is this changing the healthcare industry?

On a larger scale, the Pointr integration is changing how people think about their visit to hospitals. By enabling patients and visitors to navigate hospital grounds, Pointr Maps are providing them with a sense of autonomy and care. Through providing patient information and navigation all in one place, the integration empowers patients and visitors.

Appointment navigation in the UCHealth app

Pointr has already worked with UCHealth to integrate Pointr’s maps into their healthcare app and appointment system. With blue dot wayfinding available, patients and visitors can also leave reviews so that hospitals can receive patients’ feedback on their hospital journey. “I start my day now refreshing our reviews so I can start my day off on the right foot. Patients have amazing feedback for us,” said Nicole Caputo, UCHealth’s VP of Experience and Innovation. In addition to helping patients with navigation, Pointr’s maps also reduce the number of no-shows, ultimately helping hospitals save money.

Whether a patient is finding the way to their appointment or someone is visiting a loved one, the latest addition of Pointr Maps within the MyChart app is revolutionizing how we interact with healthcare through blue dot navigation and AI-powered maps.

Pointr Express® makes maps & wayfinding access easier than ever

Don't have the MyChart app? Not a problem. Visitors can access maps and wayfinding through Pointr Express® maps. Visitors simply need to take their mobile device and scan a QR code or tap an NFC card to access Pointr's maps and wayfinding. With maps readily available for everyone, visitors can focus on visiting loved ones and friends, and staff can dedicate more time to patients.

Recent changes to HCAP surveys means that hospitals are now incentivized not only to provide outstanding care and experiences for their direct patients, but for visitors too; Pointr Express can be an integral part of this support system, appealing to not only patients, but also their visitors (who may not have the MyChart app).

Furthermore, Pointr Express® acts as a great way to incentivize users to download the full MyChart app, by showcasing the maps and wayfinding functionality in a seamless fashion and encouraging users to enhance the functionality by linking it to their appointment records within the MyChart app.
